Project Highlights

Mark Turner Construction completed the renovation and adaptive reuse of the historic Wythe Elementary School in April 2020. The project converted this National Register Art Decoinfluenced building c. 1936, into 40 market-rate apartments. Exterior elements were renovated including significant repair of failing masonry and window lintels, new roofing and downspouts, and new window glazing. New sewer and fire lines were installed as well as expanded parking and landscaping.

On the interior, all non-original walls built in previous renovations through the years were removed to restore the original corridor layouts. Asbestos abatement was performed during the demolition phase. All new walls, ceilings, finishes, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and sprinklers were installed. The three-stop elevator was restored and upgraded. Historically significant elements were retained and restored, including classroom doors and hardware, chalkboards, terrazzo flooring, and stage proscenium with stained cherry veneer panels.
