Mark Turner Construction completed the renovation and adaptive reuse of the historic Whittaker Memorial Hospital in August 2019. The project converted this National Register Art Deco–influenced building c. 1943, into 67 apartments utilizing VHDA financing and historic tax credits. Exterior elements were renovated including refurbishing existing windows and brick repair with historically accurate materials. On the interior, intact architecturally significant elements were retained while completely rebuilding the interior including all new walls, ceilings, finishes, HVAC, electrical, sprinkler, and elevator. An exterior courtyard was repurposed to provide outdoor amenities, including grilling, seating, and dog walk.
